Sydney Dance Company

Sydney Dance Company is a legendary force in Australian contemporary dance. The Company has appeared on the great dance stages of the world, from the Sydney Opera House in Australia, to the Joyce Theatre in New York, the Grand in Shanghai and the Stanislavsky in Moscow. Its dancers have left audiences breathless; it has presented Australian art to the world, and brought the world to Australia.

Actively creating and touring new work under the Artistic Directorship of Rafael Bonachela, the Company maintains an ensemble of 16 exceptional dancers. Programs include works by Bonachela and by guest choreographers and collaborators from across the world.

In 2014, the support of The Balnaves Foundation is allowing Sydney Dance Company to create an opportunity for the next generation and present the ‘New Breed’ of Australia’s most exciting new choreographers over a three-year project. Showcasing a rich diversity of choreographic ideas, this project each year will give an incredibly talented quintet of emerging choreographers a platform to create brand new works.

New Breed was staged at Carriageworks from 8-12 December 2015
