Sculpture by the Sea

Sculpture by the Sea

Sculpture by the Sea is a not-for-profit organisation that produces two large scale outdoor sculpture exhibitions annually. One on the Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk in Sydney and one at Cottesloe Beach in Perth.

Sculpture by the Sea Bondi is an 18 day exhibition that begins in late October. Close to 500,000 people come to see the spectacular Bondi coastal walk transformed into a giant sculpture park of over 100 sculptures. Sculpture by the Sea has become known internationally and regularly exhibits artists from all over the world. The Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark were so impressed with Sculpture by the Sea Bondi that they engaged the organisers to set up a similar exhibition in Aarhus, Denmark.

Neil and Diane Balnaves have been supporting Sculpture by the Sea for fourteen years. The Balnaves Foundation believes it is important that Sculpture by the Sea remains free to the public. Since the 2009 exhibition, The Balnaves Foundation has funded the prize for the winning sculpture of the Bondi exhibition. The prize of $65,000 is an acquisitive prize with the sculpture being gifted to the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney for the enjoyment of the public. In recognition of their long standing and generous support Neil and Diane Balnaves are recognised as Exhibition Patrons of Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi.
