Australian Centre for Contemporary Art
The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) presents the most challenging, innovative and creative visual art by local and international artists of our time. Located in Melbourne’s Southbank arts precinct, ACCA’s distinctive rusted-steel building, designed by Wood Marsh, has been recognized by UNESCO as one of world’s most important cultural icons.
The Balnaves Foundation has recently joined ACCA as a Major Partner through pledging an annual contribution of $100,000 for three years to directly support ACCA's annual NEW exhibition series. The NEW series, launched in 2003, offers between six and eight emerging artists each year the opportunity to create ambitious new works for ACCA’s unique gallery spaces. The Balnaves Foundation and ACCA are motivated by a mutual commitment to support and nurture young artists and provide a significant opportunity to sustain and extend their careers.
The national profile of NEW is expanding each year. Since its beginnings over 40 artists have created works specifically for the exhibition series, many of which are now part of important public and private collections in Australia. Some of the artists that have presented work include Stuart Ringholt, Anastasia Klose, Daniel von Sturmer, David Rosetzky, Louise Weaver, Sandra Selig, Matt Hinkley, Jonathan Jones and Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro. NEW provides artists with the opportunity to create a work of scale and ambition, placing them on the road to their career success.
