Surf Life Saving Foundation

Surf Life Saving is Australia’s major water safety and rescue authority, and is the largest organisation of its type in the country. They do whatever it takes to prevent drowning and injury around the Australian coastline.
The economic and social value of Surf Life Saving in Australia has been estimated at more than $1.4 billion* each year. It has been calculated that if not for surf lifesavers, almost 500 people would drown around the coast each year.
To allow Surf Life Saving to continue this vital community service, the Balnaves Foundation has donated $500,000 to the Surf Life Saving Rescue Trust Fund, an endowment fund managed by the Surf Life Saving Foundation to provide a more assured and ongoing source of funding for vital programs and equipment that the organisation currently does not have the resources to deliver including:
• Rescue gear and equipment to provide an integrated lifesaving service to the community
• Youth development and training programs
• Community safety campaigns
• Aquatic research and development; and
• Provision of operational lifesaving facilities
